Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust runs King’s Mill and Newark Hospitals, as well as providing services at Mansfield Community Hospital, employing around 4,250 staff. A new £320m super hospital was opened in 2009 housing a treatment centre and medical wards. King’s Mill is a large friendly district general hospital serving a population of 400,000.
Trainees are based at the King’s Mill Hospital which has 14 operating theatres plus obstetric services and an integrated critical care unit. It is a great place for trainees to gain broad anaesthetic experience, including transfer of critically unwell patients to specialist centres.
